A Foul Breed
Arrival in Saringallow
Responding
to a call from the Mayor of Saringallow in Isger, Sandra Trinelli, the
party made their way to the town to meet the Mayor in her offices at
the Town Hall. Mayor Trinelli explained that 6 young apprentices are
missing and there are rumours of sightings of enormous insects roaming
about the town. She asks the party to investigate both and to see if
they are linked but asked that it be done as quietly as possible. Mayor
Trinelli suggests starting with the masters of each apprentice and
hands them a list along with an official signed letter should the party
run into stubborn townsfolk.
The party split up each heading to
a different master. Whilst one master, Majara Pricknettle of the
apothecary was not forthcoming, the other masters were a bit more open.
It transpired that the 6 apprentices were friends and hung out a lot,
often getting up to
mischief. The instigator for a lot of this seems to
be Gellion Vazarro, the apothecary’s apprentice.
Brother Anton
discovered from the Baker, Gunty Keronna, after a test of strength that
his apprentice Naomi Tauralio has been missing for a few days and that
he has seen strange flickering lights in the orchard at night
Cuthbert
Longbeard discovered from Father Ildris Ruvarra, that his apprentice,
Nolaria Wintren, was last seen in the graveyard. Heading to the
Graveyard to check, Cuthbert fell foul to two Fiendish Giant Worker
Ants. The unconscious paladin was rescued by acolytes of the temple.
Returning to the Inn the party had set up shop in.
After hearing
Cuthbert’s tale, the party decided to head to the graveyard first then
the orchard at night. At the graveyard, ready this time, the party
encountered the and dealt with the giant ants. They discovered a
strange disgusting growth over a couple of gravestones a couple of
items including a masterwork Morningstar covered with the strange
growth. The party took the Morningstar carefully wrapped in a cloak.
They also discovered the temple’s apprentice, Nolaria Wintren’s raven
familiar squawking loudly “Yellow Foot, Get Yellow Foot”. This rang a
bell with Fane Shadowgrove who was told by the cobbler, Drummady
Laterna, that her apprentice recently made a pair of yellow boots for
Gellion.
Later that evening the party headed to the Orchard the
strange flickering lights that the Baker, Gunty Keronna mentioned were
Fiendish Fire Beetles that attacked the party. After dealing with the
threat, the party found more of the strange disgusting growth along
with a masterwork sap and signs of a struggle between two humanoid
creatures. One set of tracks led South out of the orchard.
Demon Bile
The
party followed the tracks South but lost them on the cobbled street
after leaving the Orchard. Deciding to call it a night the party headed
back to the Witch’s End tavern. After breakfast the party decided to
head back to Majara Pricknettle in the apothecary to see if she would
be more forthcoming. Majara was initially refused to talk about her
apprentice, Gellion Vazarro. However, after the party showed her the
foul substance they had found, along with Gellions’ letter to Morvinar
and the talk of “yellow foot” Majara gives the party directions to
Gellion’s house and pleads with the party to give Gellion a chance to
explain. She also says she would try to identify the foul substance and
to come back later.
The
Party headed to Gellion’s house. On arriving they found the front door
locked with what looked like dried blood on the door knocker. Elspeth
managed to unlock the door with her tools but failed to spot the trap
and searing blood sprayed out, burning some of the party. Entering the
house the party are greeted by signs of destruction and chaos. As they
entered to investigate the came under attack from a homunculus. The
creature’s small size made it harder for the party, but they eventually
killed it but not before triggering another trap which shot out various
sharp implements hitting bot Holg and Cuthbert.
With
no sign of life downstairs the party headed up to the first floor. In
one room they were attacked by a giant spider, which was swiftly dealt
with. The room was covered with the same foul substance at one end. The
party found some items and a cold iron arrowhead in the centre if the
foul substance but strangely untouched. Within the spider’s web the
party could see Gellion’s parents, unconscious. After freeing them and
administering some healing Gellion’s parents admitted their son had
been acting very strangely recently and ranting about alchemical
experiments. The believed he had been spending a lot of time at an old
warehouse.
The
party decided to check in with Majara Pricknettle before heading to the
warehouse. Majara was upset at what the party houd found at Gellion’s
parents house. She also advised she had managed to identify that the
foul substance was abyssal and potentially dangerous and warned the
party to be careful. She said she would continue to carry out tests on
the substance.
Heading
to the Warehouse, the party found the rusty front doors slightly ajar,
and the door and the southern side of the building covered by thick
strands of the same foul substance. Heading into the building the party
came under attack and saw the same substance was pulsating and growing
within. Deciding they were woefully unprepared to deal with the
substance the made a strategic withdrawal!
